The Committee is the highest-level decision-making body in IBA, legally registered and administered in accordance with relevant regulations. The Committee sees to affairs related to the strategic development of IBA, including but not limited to revision of committee regulations, review of executive committee annual work report, distribution of work assignments, as well as new member approvals and declines.
The IBA Committee consists of 50 scholars and professional. Members of the first Committee are primarily co-initiators made up of experts and entrepreneurs in management, learning, research, application and other bioeconomic sub-fields, among whom 51% are Chinese.
The standing Secretariat takes charge of the execution of annual work plans on behalf of the Committee and submit annual work reports of the previous year together with work plans for the next year to the Committee at the beginning of every year. The Secretariat’s term of office is 4 years.
The Secretariat is expected to be composted of 20 staff members, namely 1 Secretary-General, 2 Deputy Secretary-Generals and 15 to 18 full-time members. During the preparation stage, Prof. Wang Hongguang serves as a temporary Secretary-General. The subordinate offices and departments are Administration office, Department of Strategic Research, Department of Technological Advancement, Department of Industrial Development, Department of Talent Exchange, Department of Standards and Practices, Department of International Cooperation and Department of Legal Affairs.
The Technical Committee is mainly made up of world-renowned professionals in biotechnology and life science providing technical advice and support for IBA. A total of 15 academicians are to be invited.
The Industry Committee primarily consists of entrepreneurs, legal professionals and management experts in the field of global bioeconomy for advice on and promotion of bioindustry development through IBA.
Famous entrepreneurs to be invited include Chairman of China National Biotec Group, Chairman of Walvax, Chairman of Shanghai Fudan-Zhangjiang Bio-Pharmaceutical, Chairman of West China-Frontier Pharma Tech, Chairman of Betta Pharmaceuticals, and Founder of BeiGene.
